The Pebble Patch

A Pebble Patch is exactly as it sounds – a group of stones set out in a pattern. These patterns vary enormously depending upon the individual or Cairn’s (the collective noun for Moorties) flair for expressing themselves. As such, regional variations can and do arise. The size of a Patch is dependent upon its age and the amount of Moorties contributing pebbles to it.
Visually, they can be very colourful though not all the stones need to be painted … some may just appeal (in shape or size) to the Moortie who has placed them there. Individual stones can display particular aspects of Moortie life and so act as sign posts for situations that travelling Moorties may encounter in that territory. This means that Pebble Patches are valuable ‘documents’ for Humans wanting to learn more about these secretive Beasties.
Most images are painted onto the stones but some ancient engraved examples have been found … though the latter are very rare.
Larger Pebble Patches look like stone paths and it is believed that Humans got the idea for cobbled streets from these structures.
